Handwriting to Font

Your signature, ready to place

Type your name and pick a style, or draw it by hand. Export a transparent PNG you can drop onto a letter, a form or a card.

Two routes to a signature

By name sets your typed name in one of twelve labelled styles, four at a time. Draw lets you sign on the pad with a finger, mouse or stylus, with the same light smoothing the maker uses so a trembling line settles into a curve. Both end in the same place: a PNG with a transparent background, cropped to the ink with a small even margin.

The draw pad is three times wider than tall, the proportion of a signature line on a form, so a signature that fits there will fit a signature box in most documents.

Twelve styles, every one named

The three sets of signature styles
SetThe four fonts
1Classic in your font (or Caveat), Flowing in Pinyon Script, Pointed in Allura, Bold in Caveat Bold
2Casual in Kalam, Strong in Kalam Bold, Marker in Shadows Into Light, Formal in Great Vibes
3Round in Cedarville Cursive, School in Playwrite US Trad, Modern in Playwrite US Modern, Light in Caveat Medium

Naming the font matters. A name like “Flowing” alone tells you nothing you can reuse; “Flowing — Pinyon Script” tells you what to look for later. All of the fonts are open-licence and bundled with the site, and none of them needs an internet request at the moment you generate a signature.

Tilt, underline and initials

Real signatures rarely sit dead level. The tilt slider rotates the whole signature from 15 degrees downhill to 15 degrees uphill, and a small positive tilt, around 3 to 6 degrees, reads as confident. The decorative underline is a single curved stroke drawn under the name, about 98% as wide as the text, in the same ink. Switch it off for a plainer look.

Try tilt and underline together: a longer name with a slight uphill tilt and the underline on looks formal, while a short name with no underline and no tilt looks quick and modern. Because the preview updates as you move the slider, it takes seconds to find the version that feels like you.

Initials mode is for margins and page corners, where a full signature would be too much. It takes the first letter of every word in the name box, so “Alex Morgan” becomes “A M”.

A signature that holds up small

Signatures usually end up tiny, on a form line or the corner of a page, so test yours at the size it will really appear. Shrink the preview in your browser or place the PNG on a card at a scale of 0.3 and look again. Fine hairlines vanish at that size, so a medium or bold style, or a slightly thicker pen in Draw mode, survives reduction better than an elegant but thin script.

Contrast matters too. A dark navy or black ink reads on white, cream and light-grey backgrounds, while a dark signature on a dark photo will disappear. The five ink colours are chosen for light paper; if you need a pale signature for a dark background, place it on a card with a dark background in the card maker and export from there.

Keeping a library

Press Save to library and the transparent PNG is stored in IndexedDB in this browser, alongside your font projects. It then appears in the handwriting pages tool as a sign-off and in the card maker as a layer you can move, scale and rotate. Deleting it from the library removes it from this device completely. Nothing is sent to us, so a signature saved here is not available on another browser or phone.

  • It is a picture of a signature. It does not sign a PDF cryptographically, and it carries no record of who placed it or when.
  • Signing documents electronically is a separate, regulated area. That is not part of this version, and the Create hub shows it greyed out as a later idea.
  • Use signatures you are entitled to use. Producing another person's signature to mislead anyone is not allowed under the terms of use.

Signature questions

Is a signature image legally binding?

It depends on the document and where you are. An image of a signature is not the same as a certified electronic signature that records who signed and when. For contracts and official forms, check what the receiving party accepts before you rely on it.

Why does my name look different in the four styles?

Each card is the same text set in a different font, labelled with its real name. The first card uses your own handwriting font when you have one, so it is the style most likely to look like you.

What does Try another set change?

It swaps the four candidates for four different fonts or weights, cycling through three sets. The label under every card names the exact font, so you can always find the one you liked again.

How do I get just my initials?

Switch from Full name to Initials. The tool takes the first letter of each word in the name box, capitalises it and spaces them, then applies the same style, tilt and underline.

My drawn signature looks jagged on screen. Will the PNG too?

The export is drawn from your strokes at twice the on-screen size and smoothed the same way, so it is usually cleaner than the live pad. A slightly thicker pen hides shaky lines better than a thin one.
