Handwriting to Font

Get in touch

A question, a bug, or a font that came out nothing like your writing: write to hello@handwritingtofont.com. The more precise your description, the faster a problem can be reproduced.

Email is the way in

Your email app opens with the address filled in. Paste in the details from the checklist on this page and send it.

What to put in a bug report

  • Device and browser. “iPad Air, Safari” or “Windows laptop, Chrome” narrows things quickly.
  • The page. Maker, template and scan-in, or the live preview each behave differently.
  • The steps. What you pressed, in order, and what you expected instead.
  • The message. Copy any red text exactly, such as the corner-mark error or the save warning.
  • A screenshot of the problem, but not of your whole font unless you want us to see it.

What we can and cannot see

This matters when you write in: your drawings live in your browser, so we cannot open your project, look at your letters or recover a font you lost. If something looks wrong in your font, the most useful thing to send is a description plus a screenshot of the preview. We cannot fix a project we cannot see, but we can usually tell from the description which step went wrong.

The site records anonymous counts of actions such as an export or a scan, with a status and a reason code when something fails. Those counts help us spot patterns, but they carry no drawings, no images and no typed text, so they cannot identify your case. Details are in the privacy policy.

Which kind of message is it?

Something broke

Use the checklist above. Scan failures, a font that will not install, a save that did not stick: all useful.

It works but looks off

Send a screenshot of the preview and say which letters bother you. Often a nudge or a spacing change fixes it, and we can say which.

I want a feature

Tell us what you were trying to do, not only the feature you imagine. The reason shapes the answer.

Fonts and licences

Whether you can sell your font, what the bundled fonts allow, what the terms say. Read the terms first, then ask about the gaps.

Before you report a scan problem

Most scan trouble comes down to five things, so please check them first and say which you tried.

  1. All four black corner squares are visible, with the whole page in the photo.
  2. The sheet was printed at 100% scale, not shrunk to fit.
  3. The settings next to the file picker (paper, cell size, cells per character, character set) match the sheet you printed.
  4. The pen is dark and the ink is dry, with no glare from a lamp across a box.
  5. The photo is a JPG, PNG or WebP of reasonable size; very small thumbnails lose the corner marks.

Writing in from a phone

The share sheet on a phone or tablet makes a screenshot easy to attach, and the mail app fills in the device for you. Add the operating-system version if you know it, for example the iPadOS number in Settings, because drawing and font installation differ between versions more than between devices.

Feature requests that help

The most useful request names a situation: “I teach a class of nine-year-olds and want each child's alphabet on a single page” tells us far more than “add classroom mode”. Say what you already tried and where it stopped working. Requests that match the project's direction, which is free tools that run on your device, are the ones most likely to be built.

Answers that are already here

A few things come up all the time, and the quickest route is the page that already explains them.

What to expect back

We do not publish a response time, because this is a small project. When a message is missing something, the reply asks for that exact item rather than a general “can you tell us more”. There is no mailing list in this version, so your address is only ever used to reply to you.

Please do not email font files or photographs of your handwriting unless a reply asks for them. They are yours, and in most cases we do not need them to help. If a reply does ask for one, you decide whether to send it, and you can always describe the problem in words or send a cropped screenshot instead.
